State Rep. Ken Borton on Friday reminded his friends and neighbors in Gaylord that ongoing construction projects give everyone something to be excited about. Currently, construction is underway at the I-75 Business Loop near South Otsego Avenue as part of a $13.3 million project to improve a 2.2-mile stretch.

“While navigating a construction zone isn’t exactly fun, projects like these truly are a sign of a healthy community,” said Borton, R-Gaylord. “I always try to remind folks of all the good behind construction. At the surface level, we’re creating jobs and producing a great result for our town. But when you look deeper, these improvements will be the first thing prospective business owners or residents see when they jump off the interstate.”

At its completion, the project will yield a new roundabout at McCoy Road, separate pathways for pedestrians and bikers, streetscape improvements, and additional safety and traffic flow infrastructure.

The Michigan Department of Transportation estimated the construction would directly and indirectly support 188 jobs. The work is expected to be completed by November.
