State Reps. Rylee Linting (R-Wyandotte) and Jamie Thompson (R-Brownstown Township) on Wednesday backed a resolution that will prevent higher gas prices and fuel shortages for Downriver communities.
“Workers and families across our area continue to see high prices,” Linting said. “We are hearing those calls in the House and working to provide relief through lower property taxes, utility rate rollbacks, and measures like these that ensure people traveling to and from Downriver this summer aren’t paying more at the pump through no fault of their own.”
“Practical plans that help make life more affordable continue to be our focus in the Legislature,” said Thompson. “I will continue to have the backs of hardworking families in Monroe and Wayne counties.”
The resolution extends Michigan’s current state of energy emergency through Sept. 15. Originally issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on April 2, the emergency order suspends state vapor pressure requirements in Monroe and Wayne counties, along with several others in southeast Michigan, to align with a federal fuel waiver issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The action expands the pool of gasoline available for distribution and sale in Michigan, helping ease fuel supply constraints and stabilize prices.
Without the extension supported by Linting and Thompson, the governor’s declaration would have expired after 90 days.
