State Rep. Jaime Greene today celebrated the efforts of House Republicans to expedite the funding of Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
The $152 million supplemental funding would be used to construct new runways in preparation for 21 new F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets arriving in 2028. Initial estimates assumed it would take over 5 years to finish the project, but House Republicans want to see it finished by the end of 2028.
“I want to move quickly to get this done,” said Greene (R-Richmond). “We will be able to get this job completed faster than the federal government, and we can’t afford to wait a long period of time. Lansing has the ability to complete this project; now we just need the dedication to see it through.”
Greene went on to highlight the impact that Selfridge Air National Guard Base has on the local community.
“This isn’t just a matter of national security,” Greene said. “People rely heavily on the air base for jobs and economic development. The funding for this project would improve livelihoods while ensuring that we still have the most powerful military in the world. I would never want to jeopardize an opportunity to keep a fighter mission here in Michigan. We absolutely need to make this a priority.”
